Personal Training

As I say on the home page, everyone has their own reasons and own goals for finding a personal trainer. One thing is for sure. It’s about improving your current physical and mental condition.

I take my job seriously. That’s not to say I don’t have a sense of humour. There’s as much laughing as there is sweating in my sessions! However, what it does mean is that I do everything I can to move you forward. If you don’t like developing a real connection with people, I’m not the trainer for you. I like my sessions to feel like I’m working with good friends and take real pride and satisfaction from client’s achievements.

It’s difficult to say how I go about my job as a person, You need to meet me to understand that. However, here are a few of a long list of methods I use to help my clients:

  • Motivation – one of the obvious techniques is understanding you and finding the best way to inspire you to do that bit more than even you think you can. As I keep saying, I’m basically a ‘people person’ and I want the best for you.
  • Lifestyle evaluation & guidance – a detailed look at you as a whole person, the way you live, work, eat, drink, (even smoke), other exercise you take, past injury/illness. It all goes into the mix to make sure we maximize your experience.
  • Periodised planning – many people exercise without a plan. I do all the thinking for you and structure your exercise weeks and months so we can meet you short term AND long term goals quickly and sensibly.
  • Monitoring – regular checks on your progress through physical tests and measurements (see below).
  • Physical Testing – from strength to endurance, from power to speed, from size to definition, from co-ordination to flexibility, I have a raft of tests which I conduct regularly to show tangible results.
  • Measuring – bodyfat percentage, blood pressure, resting heart rate, training heart rate, specific points on the body, lung function are just some of the measurements we can use to monitor your progress.
  • Laughing – they say it’s the best medicine. Well, in my case I think it’s integral to a great training session if you can have a smile and a laugh in between the hard work and challenges.
  • Nutrition diaries and advice – whether it’s weight loss, weight gain or just to pinpoint the best way to eat and when to eat for your training, my 7 day nutrition diaries followed by feedback and nutritional advice gives further focus and motivation for you to achieve your goals.
  • Expertise – obviously, I have the qualifications, but more importantly, experience, to provide the intellectual foundation for your requirements. And if there is ever anything I need to learn, I never shirk the responsibility. For example, I recently looked up a study on eating crocodile soup to improve running performance!
  • Confidence – in the gym, out of the gym, within yourself, you’ll be amazed what exercise and specific measures of your achievements will do, plus a regular pat on the back from me!

So, if you like what you read, why not contact me and see what you think in person. Meet at the gym, a café, a park or your home if you’re nearby and we’ll know soon enough if personal training with me is right for you. Get in touch. It costs nothing – don’t be shy now!
